MapQuest brings back aerial views

Filed under: aol, google, maps — Rakesh Agrawal @ 7:41 am

After a long hiatus, MapQuest now has aerial views on its beta site.

Long time online map users will remember that MapQuest had aerial views long before Google Maps existed.

Unfortunately, they aren’t as good as what Google has now:

  • The dragging isn’t as smooth.
  • The images look grainy at all zoom levels.
  • Most importantly, there’s no hybrid view that shows you what you’re looking at.

For Google Maps users, there’s really nothing to see here. But for MapQuest’s loyal user base, the combination of aerial views and draggable maps fills the checkboxes.
